WAVELAND, MS (WLOX) - A federal lawsuit against the Waveland Police Department and city leaders has been dismissed.
Marlon Jackson, Jr. claimed his civil rights were violated during an assault by officers at the Hancock County Municipal Court December 9, 2010. The lawsuit details how Jackson was in court to pay a fine, but was $20 short. He asked to call a friend to get the rest of the money, but was then attacked by an officer.
In the lawsuit, Jackson asked to be awarded an amount between $50 million and a half billion dollars in damages.
In his final judgement, Chief District Judge Louis Guirola, Jr. said "because there is no genuine issue as to any material fact," judgment is rendered in favor of the defendants.
