SOUTH MISSISSIPPI (WLOX) - Members of the Alzheimer's Association of Mississippi gathered this morning for a conversation with Rep. Steven Palazzo.
They told personal stories of dealing with Alzheimer's and the need for additional funding for research to help find a cure for a disease which robs people of their lives.
Palazzo said this year, Congress has increased funding by $300 million, bringing the yearly total to close to $1 billion. Palazzo acknowledged the need for even more research money, saying baby boomers are reaching the age when more are being diagnosed with Alzheimer's.
Already, more than five million Americans have Alzheimer's. The cost of treatment is in the billions.
Doug Walker is covering the story and will have more on what everyone said later this evening on WLOX News and on WLOX.com.
