Mississippi Gulf Coast continues its winning ways over Hinds. The No. 13 Bulldogs traveled to Raymond Thursday night and enjoyed the trip back to Perkinston following a 38-27 win giving MGCCC a 3-1 overall record, 2-0 in the MACJC South Division standings. The Eagles dropped to 3-1, 1 & 1 in the MACJC and have lost 11 straight games to Gulf Coast.
Facing a fourth-and-3 at the Hinds 47 and trailing 27-24, Bulldogs quarterback A.J. Erdely handed the ball off to Ge'Vonte Jones and he powered his way for 6 yards and a Gulf Coast first down. Jones would pick up 102 yards rushing on 16 carries and one touchdown on the night.
Erdely said, "That's probably the best 4 or 5 yard run I've ever seen. The guy he jumped over was not low, he was standing up."
Jones would bust loose for 11 yards and fellow running back T'Rod Daniels ripped off a 23 yard gain down to the Hinds 7. From the 5, Erdely connect with Daniels on a winning touchdown pass as Daniels somersaulted into the end zone with 18 seconds
"I told Teezy to look fast because I knew it was going to be one-on-one, "stated Erdely. "I saw the linebacker and I knew he could outrun him."
Chris Johnson added a little icing on the cake when he returned an interception 41 yards for a touchdown in the final seconds.
Gulf Coast coach Chad Huff said, "This team's got a chance to be special. They showed they've got character and heart tonight. They played with a lot of effort. I think this teams still chipping at playing its best game."
The Bulldogs entertain Jones Thursday at A.L. May Memorial Stadium at 7 p.m.
