LUCEDALE, MS (WLOX) -

Ricky Murrah was a 55-year-old MDOT maintenance man who died in July of 2014 when a pickup swerved off the road and hit him.

Now, a  two mile stretch of Highway 98 bears his name.

A memorial service to dedicate the new sign was held Friday at Murrah Hill Revival Center, a small church on River Road where Murrah's father, James Murrah, is pastor. Friends and fellow MDOT employees remembered Ricky as a dedicated public servant with a great sense of humor who loved the outdoors and enjoyed his job.

Southern District Highway Commissioner Tom King says Ricky Murrah will always be remembered as motorists travel that two mile stretch, just east of Lucedale.

King cautions travelers to always be mindful of MDOT maintenance crews who are working at risk to keep roads safe for the general public.
