LUCEDALE, MS (WLOX) - The Mississippi Department of Transportation recently announced that a dedication ceremony will be held to rename a portion of U.S. Highway 98 in George County as "Ricky Murrah Memorial Highway."
Murrah, a 55-year-old MDOT maintenance crew member, was killed on July 10, 2014 when he was struck by a vehicle as he and a crew removed debris along the highway.
"MDOT is honored to dedicate this section of U.S. Highway 98 as the Ricky Murrah Memorial Highway," MDOT Southern Transportation Commissioner Tom King said. "This memorial will remind all of us who travel this section of highway in Lucedale of the dangers our highway maintenance workers face every day."
The two mile section will begin at the intersection of Donovan/Brushy Creek Road, and extending east to the intersection of 10 Shipman/Beaver Creek Road in George County.
The ceremony will be held on Friday September 18 at 10 a.m. at the Murrah Hill Revival Center, 8227 River Road in Lucedale.
