George County head coach John Douglass put the ball in the hands of 6-foot, 175 pound junior LaRaymond Spivery this season, becoming the Rebels starting quarterback after playing wide receiver in 2014. After four games, 4 straight wins.
This past Friday, Spivery connected on 13 of 19 passes for 274 yards and three touchdowns. He added 213 yards rushing and three more TDs, leading the Rebels over Pascagoula 41 to 27. Spivery is the WLOX Player of the Week.
Spivery said, "I knew it was going to be a big game for us last week. We talked about it all week and we just came out and played the best game we had all year."
Spivery has totaled 12-hundred-41 yards of offense with 13 touchdowns.
Coach Douglass said, "Obviously a tremendous athlete and he can do a lot of things with the football. And he's one that doesn't mind throwing the ball around and distributing it."
6-2, 185 pound junior wide receiver Tyrese Fryfogle and 6-1, 233 pound wide out Dwan Williams have combined for 44 receptions and 713 yards.
Kahlil Burns gives the Rebels a threat on the ground. The 5-9, 166 pound senior has 353 yards rushing with four touchdowns.
It's been a team effort both offensively and defensively. The players have rallied behind head coach Douglass.
Linebacker Colton Brannan said, "Well last year we went 5 and 6 and he said that was turning the corner. I believe that. He said this year, he told us will be a special year and I really believe it will be."
Coach Douglass says his players are taking it one game at a time and their goal is to get better each and every day, every week and he believes his Rebels have a chance to have a good year.
George County has an open date this Friday and travel to Harrison Central September 25th.
