The victim of a Gulfport drive-by shooting is in stable condition and awaiting surgery at a local hospital after he was shot three times late Monday night.
Harrison County Sheriff Melvin Brisolara said Adam Lee Kennedy, 19, and Dannie Wayne Bergeron, 17, are charged with aggravated assault. Brisolara said Bergeron is being charged as an adult because of his age and the violent nature of the crime.
Brisolara said a deputy was flagged down by a woman in the Crown Hill Commons neighborhood around 7:55 p.m. The woman reported hearing gunshots in the area, but after an hour of searching street to street, Brisolara said no suspects were found.
Brisolara said a 911 call came in shortly before 11 p.m. reporting a drive-by shooting with one victim. Deputies arrived at a home on Hopewell Lane to find Jaquawn Cleveland, 20, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Brisolara said a witness at the scene identified Kennedy as the alleged shooter. With the help of the Gulfport Police Department, Brisolara said deputies were able to locate Kennedy and Bergeron at a home on North Parkwood Drive.
After further investigation, deputies determined Kennedy and Bergeron had fired shots into the air on Hopewell Lane earlier in the night. Brisolara said the pair later returned and shot Cleveland.
Kennedy and Bergeron were both charged with aggravated assault, and their bonds were set at $400,000 each.
