34th annual Biloxi Seafood Festival wraps up with beautiful weather

BILOXI, MS (WLOX) -

There was plenty of see and do at Point Cadet Plaza this weekend, where the Biloxi Chamber hosted the 34th annual Biloxi Seafood Festival. Visitors and organizers agree that it couldn't have been a better weekend.

“Oh it's awesome. It's my first time here and I love it,” said one festival goer.

The grills were smoking, the seafood was steaming, and the band was jamming. Of course, the crowd was enjoying it all.

“We just love the atmosphere, love the things to do and just enjoy the whole things in the community,” said another festival goer.

For the second year, the annual festival was back on the point. Organizers and attendees agree, having the festival back in East Biloxi just feels right.

“It's very important to people that it's back on the point, people have such an emotional tie and connection, a family connection to the point. You think of the point you think seafood, it's only natural that we come back here,” said Rachael Seymour who is the director of the Biloxi Chamber of Commerce.

Julie Brock was attending the festival for the first time with her friend, Tim, and she has lived in Biloxi all her life.

“Oh I just love the Point, and this is where Tim was raised on the Point so it has a lot of great memories for him here,” said Brock.

Under the pavilion there was a variety of food for patrons to indulge in, of course the seafood was plentiful.

“Actually I came for the gumbo. So, they sat under the tree and the shade while I went and tried all the gumbo and voted on the gumbo,” said another festival goer.

With highs just above 80 degrees and a cool breeze from the Back Bay, the seafood wasn't the only thing festival goers were raving about.

“It's been fantastic, the weather gods have smiled on us all weekend. This is exceptional weather and today on Sunday for September, it's just been outstanding,” said Seymour.

The team from the Hard Rock Casino walked away with the best of show prize at this year's Gumbo cook-off.
