Vancleave Developers Found Guilty

The developers of a Vancleave subdivision have been found guilty of wetlands violations, mail fraud and conspiracy.

Robert Lucas Jr. of Lucedale, his daughter Robbie Lucas Wrigley of Ocean Springs, and M.E. Thompson Jr. of D'Iberville were the developers of Big Hill Acres.

More than 600 home sites were built on the 2,600 acres off of Jim Ramsey Road with underground septic tanks.

The indictment alleged that as early as 1996, the government had warned developers they did not have the permits to build on wetlands.

The defendants were found guilty of all 41 counts they faced. All could face lengthy prison terms and millions of dollars in fines.
