HARRISON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) -

Cities in Harrison County continue to discuss a proposed landfill increase.

Thursday morning, city officials and Harrison County Utility Authority board members held a public hearing to present the proposed budget for the 2016 fiscal year.

According to Executive Director Donald Sharr, there hasn't been any change in the solid waste disposal fees for 15 years. Because there are a number of new issues that the board and officials haven't had to deal with in the past, there is now a need for adjustments.

"What we're doing today is a lot different, so the board is taking a hard look at the methods of allocating the costs today," said Sharr. "Are they appropriate, so it's an important issue and it's one that requires a good bit of discussion."

Sharr says the new budget must be in place by the end of September.
