BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - "Leo the Lion" was placed on his permanent foundation outside the south gate of MGM ballpark in Biloxi on Wednesday. The iconic symbol of MGM was placed there by Beau Rivage Resort and Casino.
It's expected the seven foot tall lion will become a favorite spot for taking photographs and "selfies." The lion was created by an artist in California.
"This is really going to give the park some identity," said Overtime Sports President Tim Bennett. "It's MGM Park, but seeing that lion is of international significance. People see the lion, they know what they're looking at. I think it brings a lot of credibility not only to the team, but to major league baseball and to Biloxi, Mississippi."
Two other lion sculptures are located outside MGM properties in Las Vegas and Detroit.
