BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - The Biloxi Shuckers earned their way into postseason play by winning the first half of the South Division , overcoming an uphill challenge, playing 54 consecutive games on the road while MGM Park was under construction.
Manager Carlos Subero and his coaching staff guided Biloxi to 78 wins and 59 losses, the best record in the Southern League.
The Shuckers take a swing at Pensacola, beginning Thursday and Friday night at 7:10 in Biloxi. The BlueWahoos captured the South Division second half title.
Games 3-4 of the best-of-five game series will be played in Pensacola. If needed, game 5 will also be played in Pensacola.
The Shuckers are 14 and 6 against the BlueWahoos.
Shuckers pitcher Adrian Houser said, "The BlueWahoos are a pretty good baseball team. We had a pretty good series with them the last time they were here. It's going to be a good series and hopefully we can pull it out."
Shuckers pitcher Hobbs Johnson agrees. "They're a great team. They put the ball in play, don't strike out a whole lot and pitch pretty well."
Shuckers right-hander Jorge Lopez, the Southern League's Most Outstanding Pitcher... is slated to be on the mound Thursday night and for the third consecutive month, Lopez has been named the Milwaukee Brewers Minor League Pitcher of the Month.
He was 3 and 1 with a 1.03 earned run average and held the opposition to a .188 batting average in five starting assignments.
