HARRISON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) - The horse arena at the Harrison County fairgrounds will be named for the county supervisor who helped develop it.
Family members of the late Philip Allen attended Tuesday's board meeting, where county supervisors voted unanimously to name the arena for the man who was largely responsible for helping build the 600 acre fairgrounds.
"Dad was never one who required a pat on the back, but he certainly would be very thrilled today," said Allen's daughter Debra Godber. "So we appreciate it. As family, this was part of our lives. As teenagers, the fairgrounds was just part of our life."
Allen served as a county supervisor in the late 1980's.
The board of supervisors recently voted to approve a long range study of the fairgrounds to look at possible plans for expansion in the future.
