When the game was on the line, Mississippi State quarterback Dak Prescott connected on key passes and guided the Bulldogs to a 34-16 victory, before a record setting crowd at M-M Roberts Stadium.
Despite the win...Dak says he was a little rusty.
Prescott said, "Missed some easy throws, throws that I can't miss. Some bubbles, some quick outs, throws with guys open, I can't miss. I'll get that fixed up."
Southern Miss quarterback Nick Mullens tested the Bulldogs secondary and had lots of success. He passed for 311 yards and a touchdown.
It's evident, coach Todd Monkens Golden Eagles are highly improved over 2014.
Todd Monken: "Bottom line is I think we have a much more mature team than we've ever had. We'll have to do a great job as a staff tomorrow to get them refocused in terms of still bringing the effort and the toughness that we brought the other night and clean up the mistakes that we made that hindered us from being at our best."
Southern Miss entertains Austin Peay Saturday afternoon at 2:30 in Hattiesburg. Mississippi State opens SEC play in Starkville Saturday night at 8:15 hosting LSU.
