SOUTH MISSISSIPPI (WLOX) - Many people make boating a part of their Labor Day traditions.
If your holiday is going to be spent on the water, there are a few things the Department of Marine Resources wants you to know.
According to Marine Patrol Chief Keith Davis, safety is a first priority.
"We want to be good partners with the community on the waterways, and they should approach the men and women as they're doing patrols out around the islands and in the back bays and get to know those officers," said Davis. "They want to know who you are."
Extra patrols will be out on the water, and boaters should be courteous to one another as the waterways are likely to see more traffic.
