D'IBERVILLE, MS (WLOX) - You have a new way to get on and off I-110 in D'Iberville. A ceremony to formally open what MDOT calls the Popp's Ferry Road bridge is Thursday morning. Don't be confused. Popp's Ferry is the correct name of that overpass. It used to be known as Big Ridge Road. But, when crews demolished the bridge 14 months ago, and MDOT spent $11.4 million to rebuild it, it also decided to rename the road.
The new overpass has five lanes. It also has ramps that take drivers on and off I-110.
In July, 2014, demolition crews used explosives to remove the original overpass. The project is part of a multi-phase MDOT initiative to make significant improvements to key interchanges in D'Iberville.
