HARRISON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) -

Local businesses are gearing up for what is expected to be a busy shopping weekend for those looking to buy guns and ammunition.

Whether you're buying your first firearm or your 50th, Mississippi's tax free weekend on guns and ammo is expected to be a profitable one for businesses.

Stores like Academy Sports and Outdoors are already anticipating the rush.

“We've got communications out with our buyers, getting a lot of product in here. You know we're excited. This is the second annual second amendment tax free weekend. So, we've got great deals,” said Academy Sports and Outdoors store manager Matt Fasler.

Fasler says they have mostly stocked up on hunting gear because now is the usual time South Mississippians get ready for the season.

“In this area, you have a lot of hunters. You have a lot of people who use bow whether it's compound. You know archery equipment. A lot of people will need to use safety equipment when you can,” said Fasler.

Locally owned businesses are loading up their arsenals too .The owners of High-Caliber Pawn in Long Beach say the phone has been ringing off the hook.

“We're getting prepared. Last year we had over 100 guns on display. Now, we have over 250 guns on display. We've definitely doubled in size, and we've been getting in a lot of special orders, a lot of different types of ammo and guns in,” said Stephen Hansen, High-Caliber Pawn co-owner.

Hansen says for those looking to purchase a firearm, which range anywhere from $500 to $10,000, purchasing during the sales tax holiday could save you big bucks.

“It's almost bigger than Christmas. It's bigger than Christmas and tax season pretty much. But, it's all wrapped up in three very busy days. Friday, Saturday and Sunday, we'll be here,” said Hansen.
