Biloxi Shuckers first baseman Garrett Cooper proved to be the difference in the 5-4 win over the Mississippi Braves. Cooper stepped up to the plate five times, banged out five hits including a game winning two-run double in the top of the seventh to propel Biloxi to victory.
Cooper watched his batting average improve to .688 since joining the Shuckers. He has 11 hits in 16 at-bats.
Cooper wasn't the only Shucker who had success at the plate. Shortstop Orlando Arcia went 3-for-5 with a run scored and 2 RBI. Center fielder Tyrone Taylor had 3 hits in 5 at-bats with 1 run batted in.
Brooks Hall posted the win on the mound. He pitched two innings, gave up 1 run on 3 hits to improve to 8-8 on the season with a 4.42 earned run average.
Tyler Wagner got the starting call for Biloxi. In four innings, Wagner gave up 3 runs (2 earned) on 4 hits with 3 strikeouts.
Damien Magnifico posted his 18th save for the Shuckers. He gave up 2 hits and had 2 strikeouts in two innings.
The Shuckers (75-56) return home to MGM Park in Biloxi for the final regular season five-game home series, hosting the Tennessee Smokies beginning 6:40 p.m. Thursday night.
