D'Iberville's Jacquelle Green started his second game at quarterback and the 6-foot-2, 195 pound senior was simply unstoppable, leading the Warriors of head coach Buddy Singleton past Picayune 56 to 35.
Green, a highly-sought after defensive back, before making the jump to quarterback this season, completed 9 of 11 passes for 264 yards and four touchdowns.
He also displayed his running talents against the Maroon Tide defense, exploding for 208 yards rushing and three touchdowns.
Jacquelle Green is the WLOX High School Football Player of the Week. He says the Warriors are getting the job done, first on the practice field.
"We come out to practice Monday through Thursday with enthusissm, "stated Green. "Thursday ia a walk through, but Monday to Wednesday everybody is going full speed and I guess that helped us a lot helped us in our passing, our timing. If they run faster during practice, they'll run faster during the game, they'll catch the ball. That's what we're succeeding at."
Coach Singleton said, "Jacquelle is an athlete. He's always had a good arm and everything. Accuracy and touch is one of the things you've got to accomplish over a period of time. He's worked real hard and there's now doubt about it from week one to this week. Had a fabulous game."
Green's passing skills improved greatly from week one to week two. Jacquelle and his D'Iberville teammates travel to Pascagoula Friday night at 7 facing the Panthers at War Memorial Stadium.
The D'Iberville-Pascagoula confrontation will be one of six games to be featured on the Friday Night Football Showdown on WLOX-ABC/CBS beginning at 10:15 followed by the FNFS Post Game Show at 10:35 p.m. on wlox.com.
