Post-Katrina eyesore removed in Long Beach

Residents of Long Beach who still have a Katrina slab will be receiving a letter soon giving them 30 days to remove it or the city will do it for them and assess the cost to their taxes. LONG BEACH, MS (WLOX) -

The old K-Mart parking lot in Long Beach has a major project underway. Heavy equipment crews are busy breaking up the slab of that business which was battered by Katrina ten years ago.

The slab removal comes on the heels of Long Beach leaders approving a slab removal ordinance.

Alderman Gary Ponthieux calls it, "A great thing for the city." He says removing the large shopping center slab is more than a clean-up project; it also sends a positive signal about economic development along the highly visible Highway 90 corridor through the city.
