Resurrection Eagles taking aim on third straight win on Friday

PASCAGOULA, MS (WLOX) - Resurrection rambled past St. Patrick 56 to 7 and beat Pass Christian 21 to 9 to open the 2015 high school football season. Senior linebacker Paul Blackwell says the Eagles success is built around coach Scott Sisson.

"Coach Sisson has had a huge impact on our program, "stated Blackwell. "Without him I don't think we would have a football program."

6-1 sophomore Blake Porter has stepped in at quarterback, replacing 3 year starter Larry Sisson, the coaches son.

Sisson said, "Believe it or not he took as many reps in practice last year as Larry did because if Larry had gone down we knew we had better have somebody in there to have a chance to make a good run."

Junior running back  Justice Sharp has sliced through opposing defenses for 205 yards and two touchdowns, netting 10.3 yards a carry taking advantage of Resurrection big offensive line.

Dillon Jolly has 201 yards rushing and a team leading five touchdowns.

6-1, 195 pound junior Patrick Watts has moved from running back to tight end, giving Porter a big target.

6-foot, 200 pound senior defensive lineman Renzell Johnson No. 17 is one of eight starters back on the Eagles defense.

Johnson said, "Try to get a sack every time, but we have the DBs protecting the outside.  So, with the linemen and the DBs we've got nobody can stop us."

260 pound defensive lineman Terry Lancaster said, "As a team we can advance because we have what it takes.  We come out here everyday, work our hardest."

The defense has given up only 16 points in two games and have a goal of cracking the state playoffs.

Resurrection hits the highway on Friday heading for Florida, a date with Jay High School.
