Coast women celebrate Katrina anniversary through gardening
The sunshine beaming down on East Biloxi today inspired the members of Coastal Women for Change.
They spent the morning in the community garden adjacent to John Henry Beck Park in Biloxi. They dug up the dirt and planted new vegetables in the Division Street garden.
Coastal Women for Change chose Katrina's anniversary for this philanthropy project to remind neighbors the roots in this community are strong.
The devastation brought by Hurricane Katrina inspired the start of this Biloxi based organization, which was founded in 2006 by Sharon Hanshaw.
The group focuses on youth and women’s empowerment. They are also working to help residents respond to future disasters and empower them to take part in their local government.
