Barksdale Pavilion ready to host first responders celebration

GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) - The stage is set. The tables and chairs are in place. Barksdale Pavilion is ready to host at least 1,500 first responders, two Mississippi governors, two Mississippi senators and one former President of the United States.

President George W. Bush is the featured speaker at Friday's celebration. Bush will be back in South Mississippi to recognize the men and women who put their lives on the line in 2005 to help the Coast survive and recover after Hurricane Katrina.

The menu at Friday's lunch includes Mississippi catfish, chicken and boiled shrimp.

The program is only open to first responders. At least 1,500 have RSVP'd to attend the festivities, though more are expected.

WLOX News will carry the remarks by Gov. Phil Bryant, Gov. Haley Barbour and President Bush. The governors should begin speaking around 11:30 a.m. The president is expected to talk at 12:30 p.m.
