If you are planning to hit the beach, there is a section of water in the Mississippi Sound that you want to avoid. The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality issued a water contact advisory Thursday for Pass Christian East Beach, from Espy Avenue east to Hayden Avenue.
This section of the beach is not closed. However, MDEQ warns if you swim in this part of the Mississippi Sound, the current high bacteria levels mean you have a higher chance of getting sick.
MDEQ will lift the advisory when water samples show that levels are safe for human contact again.
