Sheriff: Jackson Co. safe bandits caught shortly after heist

JACKSON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) - A safe that was heisted from a home in the St. Andrews area of Jackson County on Tuesday night has been found and its contents returned to its owner.

Jackson County Sheriff Mike Ezell said deputies responded to the call on Oakhurst Drive around 9:30 p.m. The victim said the safe was taken from their home sometime before 9 p.m.

According to the victim, the safe contained two handguns, jewelry and $10,000 cash.

Deputies identified the suspects as Lauren Elizabeth Howard, 20, and Kyle John Jimerson, 20, and investigators were able to get a description of the getaway vehicle.

Ezell said Jimerson and Howard were found at a hotel on Washington Avenue a short time later. During a search of the hotel room the pair was staying in, deputies found the safe, cash, jewelry and drug paraphernalia.

Howard and Jimerson were arrested and charged with grand larceny. If convicted, they both face up to 10 years in prison and up to $10,000 in fines. Both are being held at the Jackson County Jail without bond.
