Times have been tough for a good while for many people on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. And good jobs are still not easy to come by. Fortunately there are indications of an improving economy.
Biloxi is seeing increased sales tax revenue and the city's cut of gaming revenue is increasing as well. Even with increased tax dollars, there are always more places to spend the money than there are dollars to spend.
As the city leaders consider their spending plan for the next fiscal year, we are glad they are looking at pay raises for the city employees. The 500 city workers have gone year after year with no pay raises.
We know it has been difficult to give raises, but now that the dollars appear to be available, we hope the city council makes the pay increase a priority for the first time in seven years.
