Often discussions about recent history of the coast include statements like "that was before Katrina or "that was after Katrina." That point in time will never be removed from the memories of those who endured that terrible storm 10 years ago.
This week, there are many events marking our 10 years since Katrina. Former President George W. Bush and former first lady Laura Bush will be here Friday along with state and local dignitaries to thank first responders.
There are many remembrance events along the coast this weekend including the first concert at MGM park Saturday night. We need these events, these new marks in time. This is a time to reflect on our past. But more importantly this is also a time to celebrate our hard fought victories over the past 10 years.
This is a time to forge ahead adding to those victories and celebrating each one, as we continue to live beyond Katrina. That's our opinion, we would like to hear yours. Email your thoughts to firstname.lastname@example.org.
