MOSS POINT, MS (WLOX) - Some students in Moss Point are going back to elementary school — East Park Elementary has been selected as the alternate site for Moss Point High School, following a fire early Monday morning.

Staff members and volunteers worked feverishly to prepare the school, located on McCall Street, for the more than 600 students who will relocate there. East park was closed two years ago as part of the district's realignment.

Moss Point's city building inspector and electrical engineer must still approve the site before students return to the building.

As for the fire investigation,  Police Chief Art McClung told WLOX news that the school's surveillance video showed three people in the building right before the fire started.

The new Moss Point superintendent Dr. Shannon Vincent toured the damaged wing of the high school Tuesday morning with a commercial electrician, insurance adjuster and the school board president. Vincent says it's still too early to tell the extent of fire damage, if anything was stolen from the building, or when classes will be back in session at the building.

The Jackson County NAACP chapter is offering a $500 reward to anyone who can provide details regarding the incident.
