MOSS POINT, MS (WLOX) - Nearly two dozen young ladies in Jackson County whose parents' budgets are stretched were offered a unique hair deal they couldn't pass up Sunday.
There was lots of blow-drying, cutting and curling at the Hair Affair Salon in Moss Point. Owner Carolyn Hall Jones and her glam squad spent Sunday styling 20 girls hair for free.
"What I wanted to do is just give back to the community. We love the children, and we know as women when we feel good and look good. We feel better about ourselves," said Jones.
The salon asked that teachers and principals from Pascagoula and Moss Point to select the children whose parents would appreciate the extra help.
"I felt happy, and I was thankful that I was getting my hair done for free," said customer Jessica Myers.
Fifth grader Jessica Myers said she felt like a princess, and can't wait to show off her cute style to all her friends and family.
"When I get my hair done I can wear it out and people can like it. I can be happy, and they can be happy," Myers said.
These girls are not only leaving away with new hairdos, they also learned how to maintain the healthy, new locks.
"A lot of them don't know what to do, so we are just giving back what we do in an effort to teach them how to take care of their hair," said Jones.
The pint-sized customers were more than satisfied after getting out of the stylist's chair.
"I feel great because it looks pretty. And I like the braids, and it's beautiful," said a child customer.
Jones wants to offer this free help next year. She said the salon also partnered with different businesses and residents in the community to giveaway school supplies and snacks for the kids.
