GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) -

On Friday, The City of Gulfport hosted a ribbon cutting to celebrate the long awaited reopening of the Ken Combs pier at the foot of Courthouse Road.

The popular pier has been closed since Hurricane Isaac damaged it in 2012. Mayor Billy Hewes says the pier represents a quality of life issue for citizens who enjoy fishing from the pier, crabbing or simply walking.

Tonight at 5, WLOX TV's Steve Phillips has more remarks from the mayor and a look at the rebuilt pier.
