GULFPORT, MS - Several AT&T workers spent the morning at an informational picket line at the corner of Washington Avenue and Pass Road in Gulfport. They're members of the Communication Workers of America union. They say they've worked without a contract since the old one expired on August 8. The workers say their main concerns are the rising costs of healthcare, and wages that are not keeping up with price increases.
About 450 workers in South Mississippi are impacted. Thousands more across eight southeastern states also belong to the union.
Negotiations between AT&T and the union are reportedly taking place in Atlanta. Workers are hopeful an agreement will be reached. But they do say they're prepared to go on strike if need be.
Another informational picket line is planned for Ocean Springs later this week.
