Pass Christian has the players in place to become a playoff contender

PASS CHRISTIAN, MS (WLOX) - Head coach Casey Wittman is entering his sixth season at Pass Christian and there's no question his 2015 Pirates have enough quality athletes up and down the roster to cause some havoc and it's a young team, only four seniors on the 50-man roster.

"Everybody in our district on any given Friday night can beat you, "stated Wittman.  "We're just hoping to get into that mix and be competitive.  I think we can do that and our goal is to make the playoffs this year."

6-foot-2, 175 pound senior quarterback Justin Dixon takes over the No. 1 job.  The Saraland High School, Alabama transfer played well in Friday/s 14-7 Jamboree victory over Long Beach. He and Jermaine Dedeaux, who led the state in yards per catch last season, hooked up on a 25-yard touchdown connection.

Dedeaux said, "We've got a good connection and we play for each other.  We've got good dedication."

The Pirates have two solid running backs in 185 pound senior Tyriq Turner who banged his way for 82 yards on 8 carries on Friday and 195 pound junior tailback V-J Swanier.  He added 68 yards on 9 carries against the Bearcats defense.

"We're a better team then in the past, "said Swanier.  "We have a great chance to make the playoffs this year."

Tyriq Turner stated, "We should make the playoffs.  We're going to make the playoffs.  We've worked very hard and we're very committed and we're going to make it."

6-2, 208 pound defensive end Davonte Toles #27 played football in Wisconsin before his family moved back to Pass Christian and like his teammates, post-season play is the goal.

"I want to see our team get way better and executive plays better and go to the playoffs, "Turner said.

Linebacker Dustin Prince #24 returns after leading Pass Christian in tackles the past two seasons.   Elijah Barnes, Havi Alexander and Omarr Whavers are other Pirates who are projected to help lead the Pass Christian defensive assault.

The Pirates kick off the 2015 season on the home turf, a Friday night showdown with the Hancock Hawks.
