HARRISON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) - Officials and community members gathered at the IP Casino Resort and Spa Tuesday morning to learn about the latest progress in Harrison County during the annual State of the County address, presented by The Mississippi Gulf Coast Chamber of Commerce.
Though the county has seen its share of ups and downs, many citizens are now focusing on the silver lining.
"Our story is one that is extremely positive, and we have a very bright future ahead," said Kimberly Nastasi, CEO of MS Gulf Coast.
During the annual presentation, Board President Connie Rockco noted that the future of the county is full of improvements. Although there have been setbacks, Rockco is optimist about what the future holds.
"The state of the county is strong," said Rockco.
According to Rockco, 28 projects are currently in the works, including boat ramps and bridges. Rockco also noted that there are 79 percent more hotel and motel rooms available than there were before Katrina.
Rockco also made it clear that while various problems have existed, the focus should remain on the future.
"We never lose sight of our goals," added Rockco.
Rockco is currently serving her fourth term as board president.
