BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - A new piece of firefighting equipment joined the Biloxi Fire Department fleet Thursday. The $1 million ladder truck will help firefighters deal with high rise fires and rescues.
The new truck, which will be stationed at the Lee-Chinn Fire Station on Veterans Avenue, replaces a 22-year-old ladder truck. This truck is now one of five ladder trucks the city has in its fleet to fight flames.
"It's mainly designed for rescue, but it's also designed to fight big fires. When you have big fire you need big water," said Fire Chief Joe Boney. "This thing can produce over 2,000 gallons a minute."
The truck cost $992,000 and was paid for with Community Development Block Grant funds.
