Another Group Pushes New State Flag

Mississippi's vote on a state flag is only one week away. Tuesday, the Magnolia Bar Association came out in favor of the new flag design. Several members of the Association met in Gulfport to explain why choosing a new flag is so important. The group believes removing the Confederate battle symbol from our flag will show the world that we are a new Mississippi willing to unite all citizens. And group members say we shouldn't fly a banner that has been racist since its beginnings. Member Carol Henderson says "So that flag stands in the eyes of the African Americans, the African American community as a symbol of hatred and that sums it up. It is a symbol of hatred and that flag needs, we need a new flag because this is a new Mississippi."

The group says too many young people are looking for jobs outside our state because of the racist attitudes that prevail here.
