D'IBERVILLE, MS (WLOX) - D'Iberville police say what started as an emergency medical call Wednesday afternoon escalated into an altercation with a man wielding a knife. Shortly after 3 p.m., emergency officials received a call about a man having a seizure at the Shoe Carnival in the Promenade Shopping Center.

Lt. Marty Griffin said while being examined by paramedics, 50-year-old Joseph Paul Bonin became combative. Deputy Chief Clay Jones said Bonin pulled a knife on firefighters and began swinging.

Jones said Bonin took off in his vehicle and crashed at Old Highway 67 and Old Highway 15 after running a stop sign.

Griffin said Bonin was released into the custody of his family because of his medical condition. He was cited for traffic violations and must appear in D'Iberville Municipal Court.
