Mississippi State head coach Dan Mullen has turned up the heat and despite the hot weather his Bulldogs turned in quality reps on the practice field.
"I'm really pleased with the work and the effort our kids gave this afternoon, "said Mullen. "When we got out to the practice field it was hot. All throughout practice the guys battled, and I'm really pleased with the attitude that everybody had on the field today."
Returning starters Justin Malone and Justin Senior have provided leadership and Mullen says the chemistry is developing on the offensive line.
"They are coming along and they are working, "stated Mullen. "We are mixing and matching some guys just in case, like what will happen during the course of the season. We'll watch the film and see how they did but the key to it is what we have to get a bunch of them ready. We'd like to get 10 ready but you have to have eight ready to go play."
So how is the progress of the true freshmen?
Mullen said, "We still have three or four more installations to go to put stuff in and at that point once, it's about how they process and comeback and adjust to the speed. It'll be a couple more before we think about that. We are going to make sure we have our best 22 on the field, but we'd like to play two deep at every position to get guys reps and to play a lot of players."
Mississippi State has one practice session set for Tuesday and Wednesday at "The Farm" before holding a night scrimmage in Davis Wade Stadium on Thursday. All practices and scrimmages are closed to the public.
