Before 1,981 fans at MGM Park, the Biloxi Shuckers got their 15th victory in the home park against 12 defeats with a come-from-behind victory over the Mississippi Braves.
In the bottom of the third inning Shuckers outfielder Tyrone Taylor ripped a single into left field to lead off the inning. Taylor had 2 hits in 4 trips to the plate and scored two runs on the night. Following a steal, catcher Adam Weisenburger hit a slow chopper to the Braves third baseman. Taylor was safe at third base and Weisenburger beat out the throw at first base.
Shucker starting pitcher Tyler Wagner laid down a bunt. He was thrown out at first, Taylor slid home safely at home plate and on a wild throw by the Mississippi first baseman, Weisenburger came home to give Biloxi a 2-0 advantage.
The Braves scored 3 runs in the top of the fifth inning on a three-run blast off the bat of Sean Godfrey that sailed over the left field wall off Wagner.
Wagner was relieved by pitching coach Chris Hook after 4.2 innings. He gave up 3 runs on 4 hits, had 4 strikeouts and 4 base on balls on 95 pitches.
Biloxi tied the game in the sixth inning. Brett Phillips led off the inning with a double. Brandon Macias walked and with two outs, Victor Roache belted a game tying single into right field.
Mississippi regained the lead in the top of the seventh on a two-out home run by Levi Hyams off Shuckers pitcher Jed Bradley.
The Shuckers rallied with two-outs in the bottom of the seventh. Orlando Arcia dropped a single into left field, Taylor raced home from second to tie the game and a wild throw to home plate went out of play and Ramirez came home with the go-ahead run.
Damien Magnifico (4-1) worked out of a jam in the eight and posted the win.
Yhonathan Barrios was called out of the bullpen to save the game in the top of the night and he did just that. Barrios got three quick outs to ring up his third save as a Shucker.
The win sets up a rubber game 6:40 p.m. Tuesday at MGM Park.
The Shuckers improve to 64-47 on the season. The Braves dropped to 58-54.
