The Visiting Pet Teams of South Mississippi held its ninth annual graduation Saturday in Gulfport for this year's class of pet therapy dogs.
These dogs have spent weeks training to be certified to enter nursing homes, libraries and hospitals for therapy.
The therapy includes everything from visiting those who are sick, to visiting children.
Each dog owner says the process is very rewarding once the dogs make someone's day.

It helps promote healing with the people. It actually heals from within. It makes them calm and relaxed. I mean, you walk in a room and a person is really sad and depressed, and by the time you walk out they're a totally different person, said Mary Pecoul.

There were eight dogs in the graduating class this year, and a handful of other dogs getting recertified.
If you are interested in getting your dog certified for pet therapy, please contact coordinator Patsy Thomas at 228-265-0336.
