There's a new twist for anglers this weekend, and it's anything but a typical fishing event. The 2nd Annual Mississippi Flounder Gigging Tournament is set to unfold Saturday night at the Elks Lodge in Ocean Springs.
The event features a wade, boat gigging and kids gigging division as well. Of note, anglers will be allowed to bowfish for flounder in the boat gigging division only.
The entry fee is $25 for adults and $15 for kids. Winners in each division will be based on a total aggregate weight of three flounder.
A captains meeting will be held Saturday from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., and anglers are allowed to start fishing after the meeting through Sunday morning. Weigh-ins are slated from 6 a.m. to 7:30 a.m. at the Elks Lodge.
“Last year, we had 136 entries,” tournament director Jun Ladnier said. “We have a lot of excitement this year, too. We already have more than 200 anglers signed up. We will award cash to first, second and third place finishers.”
