A bill that is not likely to be controversial is making its way through the congressional legislation process. It would reauthorize a rather bland sounding: Integrated Ocean Observing System. As bland as it may sound, it is important for the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
The program helps improve weather forecasting and marine navigation. It provides scientists, researchers, and government agencies with vital information about our coasts.
NOAA's National Buoy Center in Hancock County plays a big role assembling and disseminating all sorts of marine data helping with scientific studies on everything from fisheries studies to forecasting tropical storms and hurricanes. We support the continuation of this important ocean observing system.
