SOUTH MISSISSIPPI (WLOX) -

The race for Harrison County’s top cop is going to a runoff. In one of the closest races all day, just 198 votes separated challenger Troy Peterson from incumbent Melvin Brisolara.

The two will face each other in a runoff on Tuesday, Aug. 25.

In Jackson County, the story was completely different. Incumbent Mike Ezell ran away with that race, beating challenger R. “Officer Bob” Cochran by more than 1,000 votes.

In George County, citizens voted out incumbent Dean Howell. The Republican nomination went to R. Keith Havard. Havard will face Democratic candidate L.C. Fairley in the November general election.

We are still waiting for the final results in the Pearl River County Sheriff’s race, but right now, incumbent David Allison is holding a strong lead over challengers John Herring and Charlie Fazende.
