The Biloxi Shuckers couldn't hold off the BayBears as the Bullpen allowed its first run in 17.2 innings. Shuckers starting pitcher Brent Suter kept the Mobile BayBears bats at bay. He gave up one run on three hits in 5.2 innings with a walk and three strikeouts. His earned run average fell to 1.95.
After giving up a two-out single to Sorates Brito in the sixth, he was pulled from the game.
Manny Barreda came in and gave up a RBI double to Garrett Weber that tied the game at one apiece. Zach Borenstein replaced Barreda and pitched the Shuckers out of the inning.
With the Shuckers holding a 2-1 advantage Jacob Barnes was called to the mound in the bottom of the eight and gave up a lead off walk to Sean Jaminson. The BayBears tied the game on a double play. Borenstein and Gabriel Guerrero belted back-to-back doubles and Biloxi trailed 3-2 after eight innings.
The Shuckers grabbed a 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth inning when Nathan Orf hit a grounder to the Mobile shortstop that scored Orlando Arcia from third base. Arcia extended his hitting streak to five games with a lead off single in the inning.
Biloxi new starting center fielder Brett Phillips went 2-for-4 at the plate for his first hits in a Shuckers uniform.
Biloxi will send right handed pitcher Adrian Houser on the mound Monday night at 7:05 in game two. He'll make his first starting assignment for Biloxi after coming over in the Milwaukee-Houston trade that sent Carlos Gomez and Mike Fiers to the Astros.
