BILOXI, MS (WLOX) -

After nearly three decades of service, one South Mississippi judge is hanging up his robe. Judge Eugene Henry started as a city judge for D’Iberville in 1988.

For a while, Henry worked for both the City of D'Iberville and the City of Biloxi. He became a full-time judge in Biloxi in 2004.

Henry said for the past 27 years, he strove to treat everyone in his courtroom with respect.

“I not only have to be fair to the prosecution, but fair to the defendant,” Henry said. “Let them know that they come in here to a level playing field. That I care as much for them as I do for the officers.”

Henry said he plans to travel some after retiring.

The Biloxi City Council has approved William "Gig" Tisdale as the new municipal judge.
