JACKSON, MS (WLOX) - Forty local governments in Mississippi will be getting millions from BP in the next 30 days. Mississippi Attorney General Jim Hood announced Tuesday that the oil giant has accepted the Deepwater Horizon Disaster settlement releases, and payout will begin shortly. Hood said every local government in the state that filed a damage claim will receive settlement funds - a total of $35.8 million.
"Our office worked with attorneys for the cities and counties to prepare damage models. I am proud of the way our cities, counties and state worked together," said Attorney General Jim Hood. "Some municipalities filed individually and settled earlier. Only about 40 local government claims were filed in local governments in Mississippi."
