GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) - The old Police Athletic building in the Gaston Point area will come to life Tuesday as a new Family Enrichment Center. The idea came together when the Gulfport Police Department, the city of Gulfport, and Climb CDC joined forces on the project.
This center will run differently then most centers, kids won't just be dropped off. Families will come to the center together. Gulfport Public Information Officer Chris Vignes said, "This will put family first. Families will come together, take classes, and learn how to become better all around. This is going to be a huge step for the city of Gulfport"
Beth Meyer with Climb CDC says the Family Enrichment Center will offer programs from parenting classes, and adult literacy classes to cooking classes and planting a community garden.
A ribbon cutting was held Tuesday morning at the building, which is located at the corner of Old Pass Road and Hardy Street.
