New program helps people off Welfare to Work

A new program is helping move people from Welfare to work. Classes began on Monday at the Mississippi Hospitality Worker Training Center in Biloxi. Instructors are training Welfare recipients and former Welfare recipients in hotel housekeeping. Officials say the 50 hour course is free to students and actually serves several purposes

Executive Director Betty Miller says "It gives this person some self confidence and some credibility themselves and makes them feel good to be self sufficient but also there is a great demand for a trained person."

The students are referred to the training center from the Department of Human Resources. Eventually, instructors would like expand the program to include food service training as well.
