SOUTH MISSISSIPPI (WLOX) - The Mississippi Gulf Seafood Trail is on its way to national recognition. Last year, 41 restaurants teamed up to kickstart the campaign to showcase fresh shrimp, crab, oysters, and finfish right off the South Mississippi shoreline. It began with an idea to steer people to restaurants that exclusively use local seafood caught by local fishermen.
Now it's in the running for a 10 Best Readers' Choice award from USA Today. It's up against a variety of trails in other states, including the Cajun Boudin Trail in Louisiana and the Oregon Cheese Trail.
