BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - Last summer Koray Easterling participated in a three-day soccer game at the Gulfport Sportsplex. U.S Soccer national staff coach Juan Carlos Michia was a guest at the camp on behalf of local FC United Coach, Tony Schibeci.
Coach Michia travels throughout the United States searching for talent, players who have the ability to one day play for the USA soccer team or play professional soccer.
On that hot summer day Michia was impressed with Koray Easterling of Biloxi and coach Michia invited Easterling to travel to Atlanta to practice with members of the U.S. Academy.
Michia said, "Easterling has good technique, a good attitude during the game and that's what we need."
The Biloxi senior received a special honor and recently traveled to England where he is training with Manchester City of the Premier League.
Manchester City coaches are evaluating Easterling and an advisor believes he has displayed enough talent to fit into their system.
Easterling has been training in Spain with some Spanish teams and unfortunately suffered an ankle sprain. He hopes the ankle will heal quickly so he can get back on the soccer field.
Easterling is scheduled to arrive back in Manchester, England where team officials will decide his fate wit the pro soccer team.
Easterling hasn't signed with an agent so if he decides to return to Biloxi, he will play his senior season with the Indians.
College soccer programs are well aware of the talent Koray has and a number of major college programs are hoping to sign the gifted player. UCLA, Northwestern, Xavier, UAB, Central Florida and Tulsa are just a few of the Division I programs interested in his services.
