WLOX Editorial: Open and public deliberation needed about how to spend BP money coming to the state and cities
In recent days, the state of Mississippi, and the cities of Biloxi and Gulfport reached final settlements with BP over the Deepwater Horizon Oil disaster in the Gulf of Mexico. Now comes the time for leaders to decide what to do with the money.
We hope there will be open and public deliberation about how to spend the money. Whether the dollars are used for coastal infrastructure, waterway improvement, or any number of beautification projects, we expect there to be a clear accounting of every dollar spent and hope the millions will have a solid positive impact on the Gulf Coast economy.
